Optimize Bids Rule Sets for Amazon PPC Automation

Optimize Bids Rule Sets: Automating Keyword and Target Bid Adjustments

Overview

Optimize Bids Rule Sets allow you to automatically adjust keyword or target bids, or pause targets, based on performance conditions.

This Rule Set type operates at the Ad Group level and evaluates performance metrics for keywords or targets within the selected ad groups. When the defined conditions are met, the system adjusts bids or pauses targets according to your configuration.

Optimize Bids Rule Sets support Sponsored Products and Sponsored Display, depending on the entities available within the selected ad groups.

Explanation

Optimize Bids Rule Sets evaluate performance at the target level (keywords or targets) through their associated ad groups.

The automation follows this structure:

  1. Select the Goal: Optimize Bids.

  2. Define performance Conditions using supported metrics.

  3. Select an Action related to bid adjustment or pausing.

  4. Choose Frequency and Data Range.

  5. Select eligible Ad Groups.

  6. Activate the Rule Set.

Available Actions

When configuring a rule, the following actions are available:

  1. Increase bid.

  2. Decrease bid.

  3. Pause target.

Bid adjustments can optionally include guardrails such as minimum and maximum limits to prevent extreme bid changes.

Each rule can have only one action.

Usage

Optimize Bids Rule Sets are typically used when you want to:

  1. Increase bids for high-performing keywords or targets.

  2. Reduce bids for underperforming targets.

  3. Pause targets that exceed defined cost or performance thresholds.

  4. Apply consistent bid logic across multiple ad groups.

  5. Reduce manual bid monitoring.

This Rule Set type is appropriate when performance control is required at the keyword or target level rather than at the overall campaign level.

Important Rules and Behavior

  1. Optimize Bids Rule Sets operate at the Ad Group level.

  2. You must select at least one Ad Group to activate the Rule Set.

  3. Rules are evaluated in sequence.

  4. Once a target is modified by one rule during execution, it is not evaluated by subsequent rules in the same run.

  5. Bid adjustments respect configured minimum and maximum guardrails if defined.

  6. After creation or update, the Rule Set may enter a processing state during which editing or linking may be temporarily blocked.

Prerequisites

  1. Ads integration must be connected.

  2. Selected Ads Profiles must be active.

  3. You must have access to the Ads Management module.

  4. The selected Ad Groups must be enabled and eligible.

Summary

Optimize Bids Rule Sets automate bid adjustments and target pausing based on defined performance conditions.

They allow structured, rule-based bid management at the keyword or target level while maintaining control through scheduling, exclusions, and optional guardrails.

When properly configured, this Rule Set type helps maintain consistent bid optimization without requiring continuous manual intervention.
