Understanding Keyword Ranking Data: Product vs Competitor Performance

Overview

This article explains how to read and interpret keyword ranking data within Keyword Tracker. It focuses on understanding product-level and keyword-level ranking information, including organic performance, competitor comparison, and indexing status.

Explanation

Keyword Tracker presents ranking data at the keyword level for each tracked product. For every keyword, the system displays the product’s ranking position and the corresponding ranking positions of competitor ASINs. Rankings are collected per marketplace and updated through scheduled or manual syncs.

The data helps users evaluate search visibility, competitive positioning, and keyword coverage.

Usage

Users review keyword ranking data to:
  1. Measure organic search visibility for important keywords.

  2. Compare ranking performance against competitors.

  3. Identify keywords where products are not indexed.

  4. Track changes in ranking positions over time after syncs.

Keyword-Level Metrics Explained

  1. Keyword

    1. Displays the tracked search term.

    2. Indicates indexing status as indexed or not indexed.

    3. Keywords are listed individually and can be searched or filtered.

  2. My Product – Organic Rank

    1. Shows the product’s position in organic search results for the keyword.

    2. A lower number represents a higher position in search results.

  3. My Product – Sponsored Rank

    1. Displays the sponsored (ad) search position when supported.

    2. May show “Coming soon” where sponsored tracking is not yet available.

  4. Competitor Ranks

    1. Shows organic and sponsored positions for each competitor ASIN.

    2. Enables side-by-side comparison for the same keyword.

Indexing Status

  1. Indexed keywords indicate that the marketplace has indexed the product for that keyword.

  2. Not indexed keywords indicate the product is not currently indexed for that term.

  3. Indexing status helps explain why a product may not appear in search results for certain keywords.

Info
INFO: Ranking positions are only available for indexed keywords.

Filtering and Searching Keyword Data

  1. Users can search for specific keywords within the product detail view.

  2. Filters can be applied to narrow results by:

    1. Keyword

    2. Indexing status

  3. Filters affect only the current product and marketplace.

Important Rules and Behavior

  1. Ranking data is marketplace-specific and does not transfer across marketplaces.

  2. Rankings are updated only after a completed sync.

  3. Products may show partial data if a sync completes with errors.

  4. Sponsored ranking data availability depends on marketplace support.

Notes
NOTE: Keyword Tracker displays what has already occurred in search results. It does not predict future rankings.

Prerequisites

  1. A product must be added and tracking enabled.

  2. At least one keyword must be tracked.

  3. A completed sync must occur to display ranking data.

Summary

Keyword Tracker provides clear visibility into how a product and its competitors rank for specific keywords. By reviewing organic positions, indexing status, and competitor comparisons, users can better understand keyword performance and assess search competitiveness at the keyword level.
